Micro Fiber Reinforcement

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Specter® HP Synthetic Fiber is a new generation of polypropylene micro fiber for concrete reinforcement. Our unique technology combines ultra thin diameter with ultra high strength.

Literally hundreds of millions of filaments of Specter® HP Synthetic Fiber per cubic yard, create an extremely dense three-dimensional network in the concrete. This network, made of high tensile strength and high modulus filaments, inhibits cracking at the microscope level.

The ability of Specter® HP Synthetic Fiber to reduce cracking in the first 24 hours after placement, allows a dramatically lowered recommended dosage rate, when compared to other fibers.

Specter® HP Synthetic Fiber was engineered from the ground up with the goal of creating a fiber with superior distributive properties - to match applications and needs of the end-user. The primary attributes sought were:

  • Increased plastic shrinkage crack reduction
  • Improved finishibility
  • Better concrete at reduced in-place cost

PRODUCT BACKGROUND:

The minimum requirement for plastic shrinkage crack reduction by ACI is 40% incremental crack reduction. Testing of Specter® HP was conducted at 1/3 pound, 1/2 pound and 1 pound. At the 1/3 pound level, Specter® HP achieved an incredible 57% plastic shrinkage crack reduction. Further testing of the fiber at the 1/2 pound level achieved 88.7% plastic shrinkage crack reduction, which is as good as, or better than any other fiber on the market – dosed at twice the volume (1 lb. / yd³)!! HP Testing conducted at the 1 pound level was off the charts, achieving 100% crack reduction in 3 independent labs!!

Based on the results of the testing – the recommended dosage rate for Specter® HP should be: 1/2 pound per treated yard of concrete – to provide superior plastic shrinkage performance at a reduced cost per treated yard!

EXPECTATIONS OF PERFORMANCE:

How does Specter® HP achieve such incredible results at only 1/2 pound per cubic yard? Specter® HP is a micro fiber (fiber size is ~12 microns); providing literally hundreds of millions of high tenacity fibers in a cubic yard of concrete; creating an extremely dense three-dimensional network throughout the matrix, working at the microscopic level.

Because of the micro size of the fiber, and the number of fibers per treated yard, Specter® HP creates a more uniform bleed, with a higher consolidation of materials and ultimately, a superior finish when compared with other fiber.

During the manufacturing process, Specter® HP is treated with a special surfactant that chemically bonds with the cement paste, generating residual strength and toughness typically seen only with fibrillated & macro fibers (that mechanically bond with the paste).

SAVINGS IN USE:

Specter® HP comes in 1/2 pound bags, allowing the industry wide practice of “one bag of fiber per cubic yard of concrete” to continue.

Besides the reduction in material cost per treated yard, there are a number of hidden savings, when compared to competitive fiber offerings. For example:

  • Shipping a single pallet of Specter® HP (1,260 pounds/pallet) is equivalent to 3 – 4 pallets of competitive fiber, based on yards treated per pallet.
  • Therefore, the cost per yard, to ship and store the fiber is significantly less than other fibers. (>50% per load)

SUMMARY:

Specter® HP Synthetic Fiber is a new generation of polypropylene micro fiber manufactured from high tensile strength and high modulus filaments providing “Best in class” finishibility, with unmatched performance at a reduced cost for every treated yard!

There is not another fiber like Specter® HP in North America!
